Mathura Vilas is a pure vegetarian restaurant that is located in Gachibowli. We went there on a weekday evening with a group of friends. The place has an amazing ambiance with the entrance having a metal idol of Lord Krishna decked with flowers. We started off by ordering the Lime Coriander soup. The soup was pleasant with great flavors and the combination went really well.
The first starter that we tried was the Chilli Vegetable Stick. This dish was primary the vegetable Manchuria created on sticks which was then dipped in the gravy that was inside the pumpkin shell.
The next item that we had was the Dilliwali Tikki. It was garnished with thick curd and both the Meetha and Khatta chutneys. The cutlets also had cheese fillings. This dish was absolutely delicious and would take you in an instant to the street chaat shops in Chandni Chowk in Delhi.
The next starter was the Paneer Tikka. This was slightly bland in the inside and too spicy on the outside. The flavors didn't go together really well.
We were then served with the Mathura sweet Lassi. This is one of the nest lassis that I have ever had. It was thick and filling and garnished well with cherries, almonds and cream.
The next dish was Paneer Majestic. The coating was done well and the paneer was soft. The dish was a Chinese dish and had a slight sweetish aftertaste.
The next starter was the Vegetable Spring roll. This was crisp on the outside and perfectly done.
The final starter was the Mathura Tikki. This was really soft and had minced vegetables. It tasted great.
Next we tried out their thalis. The first one was the North Indian Thaali. This was extremely elaborate with quite a few vegetables, rice and roti.
The next up was the South Indian Thali. Again this had starters, rasam, sambar, banana, rice and roti. Podi and ghee are also served alongwith this Thali.
We then had the Dahi Vada. This was soft and succulent and completely dipped in curd. The portions were also quite large.
Moving on to the main course we tried out the Paneer Butter Masala. The gravy was thick in consistency and tasted perfect.
The next dish was Dal Makhani. This again was thick in consistency with a creamy garnish.
We then tried out the Methi Chaman. I have never had such a good preparation of Methi and the best part was that this was garnished with wholesome amounts of cheese.
The final dish was the Mathura ki subzi. This was prepared in the typical Mathura local way and tasted great.
We then came to desserts. We first tried out the firni which came in cute glasses and had wholesome toppings of almonds and nuts.
We finished off with the Gulab Jamun which has a liquid stuffing and was garnished with almonds.
Overall: A must visit if you are a pure vegetarian. They have a plethora of dishes that taste delicious and are presented really well.
